在台灣(甚至可能是全世界),主流醫療界對全植飲食抱持著非常強烈的反對態度。甚至蛋奶素飲食都被認為在營養上是不足夠的,更不用說全植飲食了。許多人即使已吃素數十年,也被家人和醫療團隊逼迫吃肉以「獲得足夠的營養」。身為一名營養師,我能感受到患者有多麼悲傷。
某天一位癌症患者對我說,生病雖然使她身心俱疲,但她彷彿也更能感受到動物面臨的痛苦,這令我非常難過。
我意識到,真正的健康應該是建立在同理心、愛與希望之上。傷害其他動物,並無法帶給我們真正的健康。
深入研究素食營養多年,我非常確信全植飲食對健康的好處,但我也明白醫學界對素食的不理解。於是我成立了台灣素食營養學會,以科學的力量去破除迷思,打造更友善素食的環境。
The mainstream medical community in Taiwan (and perhaps anywhere in the world) is very much against the idea of veganism. Even lacto-ovo vegetarianism was considered nutritionally inadequate, let alone veganism. Many people, even if they have been vegetarian for decades, were forced by their families and their medical care team to eat meat in order to “get enough nutrition”. As a dietitian, I could tell how sad these patients were. One cancer patient told me that the illness made her vulnerable both physically and mentally, but also made her more compassionate toward animals who are innocent, voiceless and with no freedom. The desperation saddened me and I realized that real health has to be built on the basis of compassion, love, and hope. Killing and detaching from other sentient beings can never buy us real health. Having studied nutrition and vegetarian diets for years, I know well that a compassionate, healthy plant-based diet is not only possible but much better than the typical meat-based diet for health and recovery. Devastated by how ignorant the medical community was, I felt driven to initiate TWVNS to provide education and to
connect with like-minded health professionals, so that together we could change mis- conceptions and improve practices.
